Who Is Mason?
by
R. W. Bro H. J. Rushi, P.A.G.M.,
Grand Secretary
It is not the operative qualities with which this question is concerned, but rather the speculative. Any man can be mundane; but the Mason stresses the aesthetic, the moral qualities. To be specific, a Mason;
-
Has to be a Man not only biologically but possessed of a clear mind and cognisant of the responsibilities manhood demands of him.
-
Has to be free thinking in deed as well as fact. His thinking must be so channelled as to be of benefit to his fellow-men.
-
Has to be well thought of by others. His dealings and relationships with mankind should be above reproach.
-
Has to believe in a Supreme Being, for without such faith, he cannot give an inviolable, a solemn, a binding word.
-
Has the strength of character actively to practice, at all times, the Masonic tenets of brotherly love, relief and truth along with temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.
-
Has the strength not to let interest, favour or prejudice bias his integrity and thus avoid being guilty of a dishonorable act.
-
Has the fortitude to keep inviolate any and all obligations assumed in a rightful manner and not those given in fear or extreme anger, which, in moments of clarity, are proven to be wrongs against humanity.
-
Has a meaningful concept of God's strength and establishment.
-
Has a full and true understanding of the senses of hearing, seeing and feeling and their importance to a member of 'the craft'.
-
Has knowledge of the earthly and Divine meaning of the letter "G" and how it can be used to make for a better world.
-
Has a deep appreciation of the greater value of the inner man over and against the hollow values of the accouterments of the outer man.
-
Has a deep and thorough understanding of the meaning and application of friendship, morality and brotherly love.
-
Has the strength of will to bow to his Creator and seek Divine guidance and help in ways to foster good to and for his fellow men.
-
Has the ability to follow the rules of law and order laid down by man as well as those given us by Divine inspiration.
-
Has a thorough understanding of the meaning of charity as determiner by human decency and kindness.
-
Has an acute sense of high moral values and will not personally on permit others, if he can prevent it, to do such acts as are bestial irnature.
-
Has a feeling of communion with God and will pray in thanksgiving and praise as well as in a time of need.
-
Has respect for all men based on their inner qualities and not because of their material wealth, religion, ethnic origin, politics or social status.
-
Has to exemplify the highest attributes of charity monetarily, religiously, socially, ethnically and intellectually, thus achieving total report with man and God.
-
Has the dedication so to practice his Masonic beliefs as to bring respect and honour to the Fraternity from all who come in contact with him, for each Mason can be such a man within whom is God, the Author of All Good.
-
Has come to the full realisation that he must comport himself as a man who has learned to walk the earth with dignity.
