The candidate must after himself to be initiated on his own free will and accord. He should come unbiased by improper solicitations of friends against his own inclinations.

He should be uninfluenced by mercenary or other unworthy motives.

He should have a favourable opinion of the Institution and confirm to all the ancient usages and customs of the fraternity. he should also have a willingness to obey, to hold office when called upon, to carry out orders and obey summons from the Worshipful Master.

It is necessary that he obeys the moral law and is 'under the tongue of good report'. It means that the candidate should have character. In other worlds his reputation must be good. Character is a pre-requisite qualification. The candidate cannot say he will have it in future.

The candidate should not be an atheist. He should believe in God and religion. He can be disqualified even if he becomes an atheist after he becomes a member.

The candidate must be a male - women cannot be admitted as Freemasons.

Age - The candidate must have completed 21 years of age. In the case of Lewis (the son of a Mason) 18 years should have been completed.

The candidate should have sound body and have the use of limbs.

The candidate must have had good education and culture. The candidate cannot be insane or be an imbecile or an idiot or suffer from amnesia - loss of memory.

The most outstanding qualification for a candidate is that he should be personally acceptable to the members of the Lodge. If he lacks that qualification any member can reject the candidature.
If the candidate cannot be 'Charitable' cannot work in harmony with others, if he cannot be fraternal, if his behaviour or intrigues or malice, then he is as much disqualified as a person who lacks his arms and legs.
